Department of Aquatic Resources Management, FPIK in collaboration with the Department of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism, FAHUTAN to host the 2015 activities of the Joint Field Course, held from August 26, 2015 until September 04, 2015. This event was held in two different places, namely in Pari Island, Thousand Islands and Mount Walat, Sukabumi. The theme of this activity is the Tropical Biodiversity from Sea to High Mountain.
Joint Field Course in 2015 was attended by 30 participants consisting of lecturers, assistant, and students from 5 universities; Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), Tunghai University (Taiwan), National Taiwan University (Taiwan), the Ryukyus University (Japan), and Institut Pertanian Bogor (Indonesia). This event was opened by Dr. Ir. Yusli Wardiatno, M.Sc as the chairman of the Joint Field Course activity in 2015, starting with the Opening Ceremony and Tour de IPB Campus.
Joint Field in Pari Island Course participants learn about coastal biodiversity, fish sampling, community tropical fish, coral reef ecology, fish stomach content analysis, observation of mangrove and seagrass, coral reef associated fauna observation danmudskiper survey. As for activities in Gunung Walat, participants learned about the herpetofauna Indonesian, Indonesian birds, field orientation and setting up lizard trap, environmental interpretation, bird inventory, checking lizard trap and identification danexploring Cipereu cave. During the execution of the joint course of this program, the students not only observe, but they were also asked to analyze and present the results of their observations. It is expected that all participants can socialize and mingle with participants from other countries.
“Learning about the diverse marine and forest is really exciting, I really enjoyed this course, the Professor, Assistant, and all participants were very friendly.” said I-Jou (Alice) Hsiao, one of the participants of Tunghai University, Taiwan. (3/9/2015).
“Although it is still the stage know and learn all participants can present their observations very well.” said Prof. Euichi (Luigi) Hirose, Professor of the Ryukyus University, Okinawa, Japan.
Joint Field Activity Course in 2015 was closed with a visit to the Bogor Botanical Gardens (3/9/2015). Next year host the 2016 Joint Field Course is the Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, and will be held in August 2016. (sga)
